Royal Garden of the Prague Castle, Prague, Czech Republic
Commissioned by the Office of President of the Czech Republic
15′(h) x 82′(l) x15′(w) / Sandbags, Barbed wire
Constructed a temporary bridge structure resembling the historic Charles bridge of Prague using sandbags and barbed wire, materials associated with war and emergency situations. The sandbags were collected from around the world where political battles over borders still remain. The sculpture became a metaphor for borders and barriers as well as power and communication between different nations. Artist worked for six weeks with youth from Czech Republic and Slovakia to “bridge” the two nations, sharing daily physical labor and creating conversation between them, and the visitors.
