Nagasawa “fell in love” with an oak tree during her first visit to the Paradise Wood Sculpture Grove. She decided to honor the tree by hanging four rings in the “fingers” (branches) of the oak tree. The diameter of each of the four rings represents the estimated growth of the tree in one-hundred years. As time passes, each branch will grow into its ring, while the glass globes set in the rings mirror and distort the surrounding environment. This work addresses a relationship between the tree, time, and the far distant future.
